NPTNJ Program Completion and Applying for Standard Certification

Once you have completed all NPTNJ courses with a minimum grade of B and passed any required assessments, you are eligible for a Verification of Program Completion (VOPC). 

You must also have two years of teaching under a Provisional License with a year-end evaluation of "Effective" or higher.

Follow these directions for requesting a VOPC and applying for Standard Certification:

Request for Verification of NPTNJ Completion to Convert Your Provisional to a Standard Teaching License

(Please follow the steps below carefully. All steps are
completed electronically)
Step 1: District Initiates Conversion: Your district representative will start the conversion
process by verifying that all evaluations and requirements are met. Your hiring district must be
listed in NJEDCERT (i.e., they submitted your provisional certification).
Step 2: Educator Completes Required Actions
✔Complete the Oath
✔Answer Background Check Questions
✔Make Payment (if required)
✔Submit your Verification of Program Completion (VOPC)
To submit your VOPC:
1. Create a biographical record in NJEDCERT and send the request to the Educator
Preparation Program (EPP).
2. Use the email: nptnjcert@njcu.edu when completing the request—this will notify the department to verify your submission.
3. Once processed, we confirm via email and include a submission screenshot.
4. After submission, your case will move to pending review in the Conversion to Standard queue.
Step 3: Department Review & Final Processing: The Department of Education will review your application, finalize all preparations, and issue a decision on your certification conversion.
Key Terms to Remember:
• District – Your hiring school district that submitted your provisional certification.
• Educator – You, the candidate completing the program.
• EPP (Educator Preparation Program) – New Jersey City University (NJCU).
A full audit of your account will include:
o Verification of coursework completion
o Confirmation of appropriate grades (all grades must be a B or higher)
o Ensuring a zero balance on your account (contact Bursar if you have a balance.)
(Important: Missing requirements will delay your conversion. Verify that all steps are complete
before proceeding.) Once all requirements are met, a confirmation email will be sent.
