NJCU Student Takes Home Award at NJ Women’s and Gender Studies UG Colloquium
For the third consecutive year, an NJCU student has won an award at the New Jersey Women’s and Gender Studies Undergraduate Colloquium. Each student presented work they had completed in WGST 310 Girls, Girl Culture and Girlhood Studies, which is also a Tier 3 course in the General Education program.
2020:
Imoni Brooks was awarded second place overall for her project, “The Brown Girl Experience: An Analysis of the Mental Effects of Lack of Representation in Film.”
2019:
Georgina Reyes won an Emerging Scholar award for her project, “The Importance of Ethnicity within Girls’ Sports.”
2018:
Tiye-Asha Haynes won an Emerging Scholar award for her project, “Girlz ‘n the Hood: Street Harassment in Newark.”
The colloquium is an annual event that showcases research in women’s and gender studies by undergraduate students from colleges across New Jersey and is organized by the New Jersey Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium (NJWGSC).
