How to make your own (FREE) iPhone ringtones

To create FREE iPhone ringtones directly from the iTunes (v.8) library, follow these 10 simple steps:

  1. In your iTunes library, select the song you want to turn into a ringtone
  2. Right click on the song > “Get Info”.
  3. In the “Options” tab, customize the start and end times for your ringtone clip. The maximum length of a ringtone is 39 seconds. Save.
  4. In Preferences, make sure your iTunes “Import Settings” are set to “AAC” or “Apple Lossless” and not “MP3″
  5. Click on “Advanced” in your menu bar > Select “Create AAC Version”. A duplicate copy of your song will appear in iTunes, with the same filename but shorter “Time” (go back to the original song and uncheck those “Start Time” and “End Time” boxes).
  6. Drag the duplicate song to your Desktop. Delete the duplicate file in iTunes.
  7. On your Desktop, change the “.m4a” file extension with “.m4r” (this turns your song file into an iPhone ringtone file).
  8. Drag the .m4r file into iTunes, over the “Library” column and release when “Library” becomes highlighted.
  9. Your new ringtone is now under “Ringtones” (not in main songs library)
  10. Set your iPhone preferences to sync ringtones, then sync your iPhone

Note: This will only work with DRM-free MP3, ACC, and AIFF files. Songs downloaded from iTunes Music Store have DRM and won’t work.

Update: And if you’re on a Mac, simply do it through GarageBand: 1. Set up a cycle region that covers the area you wish to use in the GarageBand song. 2. Once the cycle area has been set, choose Share > Send Ringtone to iTunes.

ZLOK Logo Blog

So finally, after years of saying “I should”, I finally put together a quick basic theme and started my logo design blog

ZLOK Logo Blog is, as you can guess from what I just wrote, and also from its obvious name, a blog about logo design, with news and bits on branding, identity, logotype, design applied to all this, etc. Yes, it’s still empty, but it’s started and about to start building up content, so subscribe to the RSS feed and tell your friends.

I wonder how many people will post this…
