I just watched “The Comeback“. Of course it is an HBO program, and of course it didn’t do great in ratings and so they stopped it after the first season. The thing is, it’s very clever, has jokes that you might not get the first time, pokes continuously at Hollywood AND the TV industry, and it’s not funny “ha-ha”, so yeah, what do you expect…
To be honest, I never really loved Lisa Kudrow because of Phoebe in “Friends”, but apparently she is so much more talented than just her silly character in that show. Here, she is so brilliant, and some of the writing (she co-wrote the show) is so well done, it just puts her talent into a totally different perspective.
If you liked “The Office” (UK version) and “Arrested Development“, you will like this show too. It has the same mockumentary/raw footage format, and the same type of in-your-face yet very subtle humor. And just like both show, it is as much a drama as it is a comedy. It would have been surprising that they didn’t cancel it, actually. So, use your brain and watch it.
