The official video for the recorded version of “This Too Shall Pass” off of the album “Of the Blue Colour of the Sky”. The video was filmed in a two story warehouse, in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. The “machine” was designed and built by the band, along with members of Syyn Labs (http://syynlabs.com/) over the course of several months. OK Go thanks State Farm for making this video possible.

Via @vbroido, Mimeo and the Kleptopus King is a videogame for iPhone and iPod Touch developped by Shaun Inman, which pays homage to older systems and evolves from 2 bits to 4 bits, then from 4 to 8 bits, to 16 bits etc., as Mimeo gains his resolution back from the evil King.

Perhaps the very first level could look even more minimalistic, with fewer, bigger pixels, à la Space Invaders? Anyway, it’s cute, it’s clever, and it’s pretty.

I want to address my love of pixels. The aesthetics of Mimeo (and Horror Vacui before it) are not born solely from nostalgia. Good pixel art strikes the perfect balance between appreciable craftsmanship and the gestalt. A single pixel out of place, one too few or too many, ruins the illusion. There’s an unmuddied, economy of expression, the thankless result of the limitations of cartridge-based consoles.

If you have a brain and you like to use it, this is a really entertaining way to kill time. I wish there was a way to save the session and come back where you left the game the next time, a bit like “Lemmings” used to give a password at the end of every level, so that you can come back to it another day and not have to re-do the first levels. (Although that would be impossible to keep track of the score the way he does it now. mmm…)

P.S.: Got to level 10 before I gave up.

World of Warcraft recently launched with amazing fanfare and success in China. Partnering with Blizzard to usher in this blockbuster launch was iCoke, Coca-Cola’s name-brand presence in China. In the weeks leading up to and after the launch, iCoke led the way in promoting World of Warcraft, celebrating the game in real-life replicas of Stormwind Castle and Thunder Bluff, creating a joint World of Warcraft and Coca-Cola televised commercial featuring Chinese pop sensation SHE, and unveiling an iCoke-branded World of Warcraft site. The site is in Chinese, but even if you can’t read it, it’s well worth checking out.
